How to Enable and Choose Mobile Templates for Blogger Blogs

Google's Blogger, few months ago, introduced mobile templates which dynamically changes your existing desktop blog into a mobile-optimized site. Later on, it announced support for the mobile format of all its existing 27 Template Designer templates, thus introducing ability to easily choose mobile templates of your preference for your mobile-device optimized site.

To choose a custom mobile template of your choice for the mobile version of your blog, you will need to enable and then choose the mobile template. Note that if you only enable it, Blogger will automatically create the mobile site with a default template. You need to choose a template to change this.

How to easily enable mobile templates

Now using the blog Drtoniks Webworld as an example: Log into the Blogger dashboard and select the blog you wish to optimize for mobile devices. Enable mobile templates for that blog thus: Template > Mobile > Yes. Show mobile template on mobile devices > Save. See images below:

Choose a custom mobile template

After enabling mobile template as described above, follow the steps below to choose a mobile template of your choice:
  1. Click on the drop-down menu below 'Choose mobile template',
  2. From the list that appears, select a template theme of your choice,
  3. Scroll through the sub-themes available under that template theme using the arrow (see image above),
  4. Click 'Preview' to see how your blog will render on mobile devices,
  5. If you are satisfied, click Save.
Note: clicking 'Preview' will bring up a pop-up window sized as an iPhone (see image below) with your blog loaded within it as it would appear on a mobile device, thus giving you an idea of how your blog will look like in high end phones and Smartphones.

The image below shows an iPhone-sized pop-up window with Drtonik's Webworld loaded within it with Blogger's default mobile template.

Although there is currently no option to edit the html or widgets of mobile templates, we sincerely believe that Blogger is seriously working towards it. We hope this becomes reality in the not-too-distant future.

Kudos to Google's Blogger and, of course, blog on my fellow bloggers!
